I see that these chess newsgroups have descended into
madness as well. Does anyone want to discuss the Topalov
situation? Why was he automatically seeded for
next year's championship match?

well, as a general response, this is the latest attempt for a grand
unification of the world championship, and the stated plan is to return to
something resembling the traditional cycle - your question re Topalov could
be answered, or rather glossed [!] by asserting the matter is one of
expediency as priy motive, and to include a group of top players by
several differing measures, rather than aught else
the management question will be if fide actually manage to stay committed to
their own plan to the extent that they will be able to fund implementation
of the erstwhile 'normative' cycle, which is not a 1-year effort as at
present, but [I think] will be 2 years

Past games mean nothing in Match play.Remember Spassky never lost to
Fischer prior to their Championship Match.It all depends on the form
one is in.Kamsky seems to be more flexible in his openings preparation
which can make all the difference.Remember years ago Kamsky was strong
enough in Match play to defeat both Anand and Kramnik.The Match is up
for grabs with either player capable of winning.Between
Kamsky,Anand,Topalov and Kramnik I believe with these players in their
best form Anand would win.Just an opinion so don't kill me

question .... I have no idea why he gets a free pass either but id like
to know.....
Gata vs Top , when and where ?
I am pulling for Gata since he is representing the USA.....
He is in good form now but Top will study all his games to try and find
a weakness....
Have these two played each other before ?

Yes and Kamsky has done poorly against him too. I think Kamsky has 4
losses and a couple of draws against Topalov. However when did that
mean anything in a match?

That's not quite correct. Topalov will play a match with the World Cup
winner (Kamsky) for the right to challenge the World Champion (either
Anand or Kramnik). The reason for this seems to have been that Topalov
was not invited to the Mexico City tournament because of scheduling
problems -- haggling over a possible rematch with Kramnik delayed
matters until it was too late to include him -- and it was felt that
he deserved special consideration, both as the most recent challenger
and as a player who clearly belonged in the Mexico City tournament on
rating.

Thank you. And I see already that someone has decided
to post here under my name. Unfortunate.
But I read somewhere that at least one player
(Morosevich, perhaps?) declined to participate
in the World Cup because of the Topalov
arrangement. Is that so?

The real question is will there be CCTV monitoring in the washrooms. All
angles covered.
