I see that these chess newsgroups have descended into madness as well. Does anyone want to discuss the Topalov situation? Why was he automatically seeded for next year's championship match? Dr. Elbridge Washington B.A. (Philosophy), M.A. (Religious Thought) Ph.D. (History of Religion)

Yes id like to see more chess talk on here and you ask a very good question .... I have no idea why he gets a free pass either but id like to know..... Gata vs Top , when and where ? I am pulling for Gata since he is representing the USA..... He is in good form now but Top will study all his games to try and find a weakness.... Have these two played each other before ?

Yes and Kamsky has done poorly against him too. I think Kamsky has 4 losses and a couple of draws against Topalov. However when did that mean anything in a match? EZoto

Topalov will play a match with the World Cup winner (Kamsky) for the right to challenge the World Champion (either Anand or Kramnik). The reason for this seems to have been that Topalov was not invited to the Mexico City tournament because of scheduling problems -- haggling over a possible rematch with Kramnik delayed matters until it was too late to include him -- and it was felt that he deserved special consideration, both as the most recent challenger and as a player who clearly belonged in the Mexico City tournament on rating.

Thank you. And I see already that someone has decided to post here under my name. Unfortunate. But I read somewhere that at least one player (Morosevich, perhaps?) declined to participate in the World Cup because of the Topalov arrangement. Is that so? Merry Christmas to all, and may the blessings of our Saviour descend upon you and your loved ones. Dr. Elbridge Washington B.A. (Philosophy), M.A. (Religious Thought) Ph.D. (History of Religion)

The real question is will there be CCTV monitoring in the washrooms. All angles covered. Dr. Elbridge Washington B.A. (Philosophy), M.A. (Religious Thought) Ph.D. (History of Religion)
