Chess is not limited to mathematics and brute force calculations. Instead, chess is an art. Therefore, computer-based chess is not artistic. The Queen, being the beauty of the universe beyond mathematics, compels you to foresake and forestall using those crude devices, and rely instead on your divinely given minds.

Todays SuperComputer can see upto depth of 28. If in 2020 Computers become 1000 times faster. Then On a Super Computer GetClub Chess will see +40 moves in advance that too with Beginner Level. I hope to live THAT long. Perhaps, if they invent a pill which magically dissolves fat, has the same effect as moderate exercise and cleans out the arteries like a roto-rooter brush, there is still hope. I put it somewhere in the vicinity of the year 2080 A.D. And only if the creators of Rybka all die, while Sanny and his crack programming team keep at it, night and day. Me, I betting on some big corporation to one day decide to "kill the beast", hook up some multi-billion-dollar computers and create 16-man endgame table-bases: Patzer A vs. Patzer B 1. a3?? (Losing in 235 moves.) ... e5?? (Long though to be a good move, this throws away the win; equal.) 2. b4?? (Losing once again.) ... Nf6?? (The so-called classical style has long been refuted; correct was the prophilactic move ...a6; equal.) -- help bot

Here is the new Rating I give to all Levels Beginner: 1900 (5-10 sec/ move) Easy: 2100 (20-30 sec/ move) Normal: 2300 (1-2 min/ move) Master: 2500 (5-10 min/ move) Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

In that game, for instance, he missed many wins and seemed like he was trying to blitz (like in a five-minute game). The GetClub program won, but it was dead lost in the opening and all through the early middle game as well. (Hyper-active Queen, in conjunction with greedy pawn-grabbing was the culprit.) The program did a fair job of exploiting all his mistakes, but it severely neglected its development. As we saw, TACTICS decided the issue, not to mention very poor defense in the endgame by Bonsai. I've had more than a few of these types of positions, and usually had no trouble in reaching, say, K&R vs. K&R&N, which is drawable if all the pawns are traded off. Also note that there was a threefold repetition of position (or maybe six fold), but the program did *not* grant Bonsai the draw. > Today I saw your game was Drawn. I was shocked when I logged on and instead of starting a new game, found myself back in that mess of a position! I was forced to repeat the position, or lose material. > Now on I will see a lot of Drawn games against Beginner. I read that the world's strongest chess program, Rybka, had little work done to improve its endgame play; its creator seemed to think it wouldn't have much effect. What's odd is that even my old Fritz 5.32 program sees that a simple endgame position is drawn, while far stronger programs like Rybka score it as a big advantage for Black. Even so, it finds the correct moves, but I wonder why the scoring is so messed up on this position: White: Kd3, pe3 Black: Kd5, pe5, pf5 Fritz instantly shows a score of zero, while some programs analyze deeply only to render +1, +2, or even +3 for Black. -- help bot

Yes Bonsai lost to Beginner Level. He was a very good player and used to beat even the Master Level. I fell in future he may regain the score by playing against the Beginner Level. Today I saw your game was Drawn. In other game the Beginner went into trap So lost the game. Now you will be able to win only if you find some way to trap the beginner. Else beginner will play smartly and bring Draw or may even win a game against you. Now on I will see a lot of Drawn games against Beginner. Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

The GetClub program is not *always* an abomination. Twice (at least), I've played a game in which the Beginner level has managed to copy the playing style of Aron Nimzowitch very nicely-- making me wish I'd never even heard of doubled pawns or professor Ilaxis. In fact, it is precisely such games which show the program at its best. As for chess-as-art, I'll wager the games of the best chess engines easily rival those of even the most "artistic" humans. It may be accomplished through brute calculation, but judged side-by-side in a blindfold taste-test, I would not bet against the computers. I see such comments as reflecting the exasperation of some, who have basically given up all hope of ever competing with the beasts again. These people are now in the denial stage; you know, like all the pundits who once asserted that computers would never beat a human master in a set match. Some day, there may emerge a class of youngsters who go into denial about humans ever having been in any way superior to the chess computers... . BTW, one of the old-timers at GitClub has just lost to the Beginner level; he formerly was one of the many who took and hoarded rating points, but now he seems to be a rating point donor-- giving points back to the Beginner level. Hmm. -- help bot
