Subject: Paul Truong Has Filed For Bankruptcy
|
While searching for something else, I stumbled on a Bankruptcy filing for "HOAINHAN M TRUONG". This is a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy filing. This is definitely OUR Paul Truong. His address is the same as the address of Susan Polgar, 67-76 Booth Street, Apt. 1E, Forest Hills NY 11357. The date of filing was June 21, 2007, Filed in the Eastern District of New York which covers Queens. Case Number is 1-07-43368 He lists his occupation as "unemployed". He lists as income "Child Support from Wife's Ex-Husband $1250.00 per month". That is the child support that Susan's ex-husband Jacob Shutzman pays for the support of their two children, Tom and Leaam. His only other income is income of spouse as a "writer" of $980 minus $150 business expenses leaving income of $830 per month. Truong lists as assets, $40 in cash, $1000 in household furnishing, $750 in clothing. Total assets $1790.00 Liabilities are taxes owed to the Cook County Chicago Tax Department in 1994-1995 of $2831.00 and various credit cards debts, mostly to American Express Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and to Asset Acceptance, Warren MI. Debts are also owed to Capital One Bank, United National Bank and Washington Mutual. Total liabilities $52,412.00 His filing says that his filing fees and his attorney's fees were paid by his wife who, as we know, is Susan Polgar. His attorney is Kevin D. Ribakove, 107-19 71st Avenue, Forest Hills NY 11375, 718-268-8900, FAX 718-268-3045 The filing date of June 21, 2007 was when Paul Truong was running for USCF election claiming to have made millions by rescuing and saving billion dollar corporations. Bankruptcy was discharged on October 30, 2007. This means that he cannot file for bankruptcy again for another seven years. The website address of this bankruptcy case is https://ecf.nyeb.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_case_doc?1,269988,,,,1 I am surprised that nobody noticed this before, or perhaps somebody did and did not tell us. It seems appropriate to congratulate Sam for his work on this. Previously, it was Brian Motterhead who did the research, and Sam deserved credit for perseverance but not always common sense in his lawsuit. However, the discovery of the bankruptcy filings is all due to Sam. I am guessing that this will be the straw that broke the camel's back; that even most of Truong's previous supporters will realize that he is not a man whose statements can ever be trusted, and that he should be asked to resign from the board. However, I have been amazed at the persistence of his defenders in the face of overwhelming evidence before, and we will have to wait and see how this plays out. Someday in the future, I think a chess historian will have a field day with this. I think the story will be about a con man who told an incredible set of whoppers from start to finish, and got away with it for a very long time before he was found out because of extraordinarily stupid behavior in attacking a man with his own bizarre and colorful background. I think that Susan will end up as a very tragic figure, but we will have to wait for history on that one. In any case, those of us who said Sam never produced anything important in his investigations must admit that this is a significant find. Previously, it was Brian Motterhead who did the research, and Sam deserved credit for perseverance but not always common sense in his lawsuit. However, the discovery of the bankruptcy filings is all due to Sam. I am guessing that **Jerry Spinrad is speculating again. This has become ChessCafe's historian's mode d'emploi. <sigh > **What a farce of a post! Lets hear about those throwing stones, and see if they ever had a personal embarassment [albeit, some bankruptcies are rather technical ones to dissolve past relations] - especially since we praise Sam Sloan so much, who, shall we say, is indifferently financed? this will be the straw that broke the camel's back; **A Camel? that even most of Truong's previous supporters will realize that he is not a man whose statements can ever be trusted, and that he should be asked to resign from the board. **Interesting comment. I wonder if all board members would be subjected to such invigilation? Does Jerry Spinrad for example think that Sam Sloan, who he praises, should have anything to do with children in chess? Does he think that Sam Sloan and all board members be required to pass a low-level high-school background check? Let us hear him about his idea of objective standards applicable for all! And as for finances, is Jerry Spinrad's view that what he proposes [for no stated reason] should be applied to all board members? **And Sam's net worth is? Or is that not significant? Does it depend who is the subject of conversation? Let me assure innocent readers that that is a rhetorical question, since Spinrad and co have only one interest in all this - not to establish principle, or even history as is outrageously suggested above, but to get at one and only one person. It matters not to them with whom they consort, since each recognizes the same as themselves in their cohorts. And, boy! do they like it! At the age of 22, I opened my first of a number of companies. I put in up to 16-18 hours a day, seven days a week, for 15 years. There was no short cut. (quote from PT interview) >But, but....maybe he did all of that and fell on hard times after 2001. ;-) I'm still trying to get my mind around all of this. First, someone filed for bankruptcy *twice*, the last time right in the middle of the USCF EB campaign, where his slogan was "Time to clean up the USCF", and where he touted his financial expertise and business acumen, but refused to provide details. Seems to me, a number of people just had to know about this, and they all kept silent. Who were they and why did they say nothing? Second, according to the document Sam Sloan provided, the filing was over about fifty grand worth of debt, mostly credit cards and phone bills evidently, with some taxes thrown in, all debts incurred by a mature adult. When a big swinger in the business world goes under, the debts are usually HUGE. Fifty grand is a lot of money to most of us, but to a high profile corporate consultant, this is chump change, less than many recent college grads have in student loans. Seems to me, someone presenting the business credentials that PT did during the election would be concerned about his professional reputation, would be reluctant to take the bankruptcy shortcut and just go back to hard work for a few months and pay it off. I would guess there's more story beneath the surface.

IMO, Mr. Truong is a fraud. So a man who can't manage his own finances claims to be able to set the USCF's finances in order????? I think I'm going to file an ethics complaint with the USCF for failing to tell the members about this during the campaign and misrepresenting his economic status to the membership.
