For many years, I did all the legal work involving a bunch of apartment buildings in Park Slope Brooklyn. The owner had a soft spot for Japanese and he rented apartments to Japanese girls whenever possible. Often, they would come to him with some sob story about why they could not pay the rent. He always fell for it. Then they would always get a black boyfriend, who would move in with the Japanese girl. Then the Japanese girl would move back to Japan, without paying the rent, and leave the black boyfriend in the apartment, who would not pay the rent either. Then the building owner had to go to court to evict the black boyfriend. Finally, the owner of these buildings, Al Fogelson, married a Japanese woman, Terumi Kaneyasu. She took over all his businesses and all his buildings. Then she fired me, even though I was the one who was fighting all his court cases and keeping him in business and barely out of bankruptcy. Then he got Alzheimers disease and lost his mind. Then the lawyer through whom I had been fighting all these court cases, Jon Sherry, got tired of practicing law, and so in March 2003 he took out a gun and shot and killed himself. That is why I am in the Bronx now. Finally, Fogelson died in October 2006. Just about the time he died, the real estate market went way up, whereas previously the debt he owed on these apartment building had been more than the buildings were worth. Terumi Kaneyasu, the bereaved widow, sold all his buildings in the rising real estate market and cashed out five million dollars. This is a true story. Sam Sloan

You are obviously not very well-informed about our Sam. He is a self- obsessed, self-promoting, self-aggrandizing solipsist with little regard for factual truth, and to say he "makes things better" is like saying water makes things dry. Veterans of the chess newsgroups know Sam all too well.

Sam Sloan Not so true in the Bronx, where the communities are policed hard, because of the muggings, assaults, robberies, rapes, domestic violence that are so frequent there. Just go to Bronx Criminal Court and sit at arraignments any Friday and you will quickly understand what goes on in the Bronx. Well you know, I don't really agree with you on that point. Sam Sloan may be unconventional, however, judging from his postings, he is an intelligent, curious, honest, creative, human being. I think Sam makes things better. Mailorder brides wouldn't find a market if they wasn't a demand.

Crime is migrating to smaller cities and suburbs -- areas where law enforcement is relatively clueless about how to address it.

Last night at 2:00 AM just while I was reading this group I heard what sounded like gun shots on two different occasions. I also heard a lot of yelling in screaming as a man and a woman were arguing with each other. So, I looked out the window and I did not see any dead bodies on the street so I figured that everything must be OK and I went to sleep. Sam Sloan

Coward! You _should_ have raced downstairs & out into the streets, remonstrated with the gangsters & confiscated their weapons. Then, you should have raced back inside & involved yourself in the drunken & drug-fuelled domestic, castigating them for their inconsideration of others. Then, & only then, should you have returned to your apt. & got some shuteye..

As explained at the top of this thread, I know how to manage a building. That is what I did off and on for 13 years in Brooklyn. In this case, it would be real easy, as nearly half the apartments are empty anyway. However, everybody I have spoken to says that it is impossible to buy an HPD Building. Sam Sloan

In my neighborhood, Morris Heights in the Bronx, there are both the Crips and the Bloods gangs. I do not know the colors except the Bloods wear dark red on their heads I believe. I have not seen any actual gang related violence. In the apartment directly two floors above mine there is still a bullet hole in the window where a boy standing on the street in front of my house shot through the window to prove his love for the girl living upstairs. However, on Easter Sunday 2006 only four blocks from my house on the corner of Harrison and Tremont streets some black guys shot at some Hispanic Guys across Tremont. A woman driving an SUV with her two year old son strapped in a carseat in the back seat while going to church for Easter Sunday came by. The bullet went through the car door killing the little boy. You can find this story on the Internet. I believe that I know one of the shooters. His name was Graham (same name as my grandmother's incidently). I believe that I had played him chess on the street and he was a fairly good chess player. I won the chess games, but not easily. Sam Sloan

Spassky once said of Tal: "Mischa, Mischa! He is living chess itself!" Sam, as is his custom, thought the remark applied to himself. Therefore anything that concerns Sam is by definition "about chess," as Sam sees it. Other famous sayings about our Sam: "All roads lead to Sloan." "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was Sloan." "Call me Ishmael Sloan." "Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this Sloan of New York." "Why, Sloan, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus." "Man is a rope across an abyss, a bridge from the animal to the Super-Sam."

VH-1's "The Pickup Artst" was FRAUDULENT. Six of the eight contestants were actors, and they used PAID TARGETS in the club.
