Subject: Gata and Top will play ?
I read that on a post ..I hope they do ...

I am pulling for Gata but i know he has to be at his best in every game
and Top has to be a LOT off his game because if he is just a little off
he still wins ......

I hope Gata can find a weakness in Tops game and takes advantage of
it......

Breaking news from Dresden
on the ICC Chess.FM blog:
by Macauley Peterson
ICC Chess.FM
Tuesday, November 18, 2008
Dresden, Germany

At 10:00 AM this morning, a closed door meeting was convened in
Seminar Room 5, adjacent to the FIDE office in the International
Congress Center, Dresden, to attempt to reach agreement on the terms
of the World Championship semi-final match between Gata Kamsky and
Veselin Topalov....

At 12:00 Noon the meeting adjourned for a one hour lunch break,
affording the first opportunity to learn who was present, and whether
progress was being made.

In attendance were Gata Kamsky (pictured above, right), Emil Sutovsky
(Kamsky=92s second and now de facto manager; pictured above, left),
Silvio Danailov (manager of Topalov; pictured below, right), Stefan
Sergiev (President of the Bulgarian Chess Federation; pictured below
right with Danailov), Israel Gelfer (Honorary FIDE Vice President),
William Kelleher (FIDE Vide President and USCF Delegate), Georgios
Makropoulos (Deputy FIDE President), Zurab Azmaiparashvili (FIDE Vice
President), Boris Kutin (Continental President for Europe), Berek
Balgabaev (special advisor to President Illyumzhinov) and Lakhdar
Mazouz (FIDE Verification Commission).

Topalov himself, was not present, nor was Alexander Chernenko,
previously serving as Mr. Kamsky=92s manager and organizer of the so-
called =93Lviv bid=94 for the match. As recently as last Friday, Chernenko
in an open letter stated, =93I will be present at the FIDE Congress as
the Manager of GM Gata Kamsky.=94 That, along with various other
assertions made by Chernenko over the past months, has proven false.

One attendee, who asked not to be named, quoted Kamsky as saying,
=93Chernenko is no longer my manager.=94 Further details were not
available, however FIDE treasurer Nigel Freeman, who was not in the
meeting, told me that in his opinion Chernenko had lead FIDE and the
rest of the chess world =93on a wild goose chase.=94

During the lunch break, most of the participants retreated to the
Maratim hotel next door, but Kamsky and Sutovsky took a short walk
along the Elbe river before returning to the hotel. The meeting
reconvened at 1:00 PM, lasting only another 45 minutes.

After the meting I spoke to several attendees. =93Everything is going in
a good way,=94 said Mr. Makropoulos, who also confirmed that an
agreement had been reached. Gelfer and Mazouz immediately began
drafting, not just a FIDE statement (to be published tonight or
tomorrow morning), but contracts for the match itself, which are to be
signed as soon as they have been checked and approved by both players.

Neither Kamsky nor Danailov would comment, having been expressly told
not to speak to the media until after an official statement by FIDE is
released. However, a few salient details are now known.

Yes, that is good. I just hope Kamsky can get a fair shake, playing
on Topalov's home court.

and USCF reported a couple more details:

"Danailov said that those were the only possible match days to allow
Kamsky to play in Corus and get the two-week break afterward that he
requested. He said Topalov will have to back out of his contract to
play in Linares but that he had the blessing of the Spanish organizers
there. =93This was cancelled in friendly terms,=94 Danailov said."

asked last week to represent Kamsky. He said there were two solutions
to the problem =96 confrontation and possible litigation, or an appeal
to FIDE for certain match conditions. =93FIDE needs to finish the
cycle.=94

that's all of substance I can obtain, and //The winner of the February
match will go on to face World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand, who
defeated GM Vladimir Kramnik earlier this month. //

I see Susan was at the conference, and rather suspect that she made
sort of personal intercession, but that's her own story to tell.

The good news for chess fans is that players, not lawyers or chess
burocrats, will decide the issue.

This looks more solid:

This is a special press conference with IM Danailov, manager of GM
Topalov, and GM Sutovsky, manager / friend of GM Kamsky.

They have confirmed that the contract HAS BEEN signed. The date of the
match will be February 16 - 28, 2009 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The prize
fund will be $250,000 and it will be split evenly.

Where do you see that, Phil? They reported the Bulgarian offer a few
days ago =97 http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=3D5015 =97 but
I don't see any report that Kamsky had accepted it.

If those other matches would have been played do you think Kasporove
would have won them all ?

The last match Top i think would have won that one.

Well, I feel a certain amount of responsibilty here for false
reporting - why on earth did I trust the awful NY Times Gambit blog?
Here below is the latest reporting - essentially the match is still on/
off/off/on/off again.

November 19, 2008, 1:30 PM

Gata Kamsky confirmed last night in person, and again today by phone,
that no contracts for the match have been signed yet . There are only
drafts of such a contract circulating among FIDE officials, the
players and their representatives.

Gambit, the New York Times chess blog inaccurately reported last
night that =93Kamsky and Topalov and their representatives signed the
contracts Tuesday at the Chess Olympiad in Dresden,
Germany.=94 [Emphasis added.]

The distinction is not trivial. A list of matches which were agreed to
in principal, and announced by FIDE, but did not take place over the
past ten years includes*:

Kasparov vs. Shirov 1999
Kasparov vs. Anand 1999
Kasparov vs. Ponomariov 2003
Kasparov vs. Kasimdzhanov 2004
Topalov vs. Radjabov 2006

The matches failed to occur for various reasons, and are not
necessarily relevant to the present match negotiations, but certainly
the existence of signed contracts would be a significant milestone.

Israel Gelfer, honorary FIDE Vice President, who is actively revising
the contracts as of this writing, told me by phone, =93there are no
problems, we are just working on the wording.=94 He explained that an
official communication from FIDE to be published on the FIDE website ,
was pending.

Gelfer also added that he expects the draft contracts to be approved
and signed by both players =93within one or two days.=94

Interesting stuff can be found on MP's blog for ICC. Chess news from

Thanks , that was a interesting read ..

Glad Gata fired that guy , when you represent some one you have to
be professional and not go around making false statements..

I mite go look up Gata vs Top record against each other , i am sure
they must have played a few times over the years ....

I know Gata is Russian but since he lives here in the USA , that is why
i am pulling for him.
