Recently MI Robert Wade was "invited" to play in a strong tournament
and he obtained no points.

I'm sorry to inform that now Bent Larsen was "invited" to play in a
similar event in Argentina and he also scored nil.

It goes like this:
'Recently Maestro Internazionalisto Robert Wade was...'
Pause. Look away from camera down to notes on desk. Breathe in. Clench
teeth and....
'..."invited" to play in a strong tournament and he obtained no
points.'
Now wait for about half a minute. Look back up at the camera. Bach's
Fugue on the death of his Sloth should begin playing in the
background.
'I'm sorry to inform that now Bent Larsen was...'
Grimace. If the opportunity presents itself, spit into a bucket.
Clench and bare teeth. Pick up notes and screw them into a ball....
'..."invited" to play in a similar event in Argentina and he also
scored nil.'
Stand up and walk off camera, throwing the notes back behind you into
shot.
Picture of Wade and Larsen fills screen, with the huge word INVITED?
superimposed on it.

I'm sorry, I still fail to understand. Either the tournament
organizers invited Wade and Larsen just like they invited all the
other players, or they didn't. What was different about Wade and
Larsen?

Some countries use that abbrevation to refer to an International
Master, eg, Maestro Internationale.

He is saying the word 'invited' through clenched teeth, and this is
one good way of representing that.

Schadenfreude, probably.

I do believe Larsen has been a diabetic for over a decade. That in
and of itself is enough to hurt performance in long games.

Why do you put "invited" in quote marks, as if they were not really
invited?
As far as Larsen's score goes, I recall hearing recently that he is
ill. Perhaps that explains his performance? Wade is 87 years old and
at his best was rated only about 2380, so a zero against strong
opposition is not all that surprising.

He was a massive force in the 1960s, winning tournament after
tournament - especially when Fischer was resting.
He really fancied his chance v Fischer in Denver, as did others, and I
think he was a bit shaken by the result.
His results became more mercurial. He came last at Montr=E9al 1979 but
he beat Karpov in a very good game. Even that was 30 tears ago.
