Subject: Best Pocket Chess Computer?
|
I am looking for a pocket chess computer. I've read various advice that the best pocket chess players are those that are available for PDAs and stphones, however I don't own either and have no need for either. Of course, if that is the most cost-effective way to go, I could buy one. I don't need a pocket monster - I'm probably a 1400 player. I'd just like a way to play chess on the bus, in the loo, in boring meetings...something with adjustable strength would be nice. A bonus would be some sort of way of getting data off it (SD card, PC link, whatever) so I could export my games in PGN...but this is not essential. Thoughts?? TIA.

TIA. Talking LCD Chess by Excalibur. $25 to $30. Good challenge for a 1400 player. Really nice display. Batteries last through many months of daily use. The way I use it is to set it to think forever, and every day or two I make another move (Postal chess has always been my favorite style.) I also like to play both sides for a few moves at first to steer itbinto an opening that I have't played before, then playing against the computer from there. I usually beat it (I am a 1900 player) but it puts up enough of a fight to be enjoyable. One easy-to-fix problem; even with the sound supposedly turned off, it will occassionally beep. I opened the case and cut one of the wires to the speaker. Let it try to beep *now*! :) -- misc.business.product-dev: a Usenet newsgroup about the Business of Product Development. -- Guy Macon <http://www.guymacon.com/ >
