I never had version one nor even heard of "Fritz" until it reached much later editions. The SSDF rating list now puts it at 1907 on an old 386 computer, and this same list has Rybka at nearly 3000, but on modern hardware. Suppose we allow that Java is so slow that it is akin to running Sanny's chess program on an old 386 machine; that would mean he only has to compete at the Class A level to "equal" Fritz version one. Hmm. Now think about it: the program clearly does dumb things routinely which no Class A player would do, but remember that tactics are 90+% of the game. And the program does not resign in drawn positions like some humans have done, nor does it ever get tired or just miss pxR like some masters do in GM Soltis' book on brilliancies. It's difficult to give credit for playing at the Class A level when the program does so many dumb things, but then if you consider overall strength and disregard style, it certainly is better than most players in that it has beaten me a few times. My deepest concern is Rob Mitchell's perfect 2-0 score against the program; is this not proof positive that it cannot really play chess? Even IM Innes has beaten it like a carrot, and he's not really any good. Maybe I will dig out an old chess program on a 5.25" floppy disk and test it against Sanny's. Let me see... DOS 3.0, ...um, copy a: chess.exe c: chess.exe, er, run chess.exe? No, run is probably a BASIC command. Um, just chess.exe [enter]? I can run it in a DOS box under Windows 2.0 -- no, that OS was only good for crash testing. This is not going to be easy... . -- help bot

This is something Puzzle like: What Comes first Hen or the Egg? I say Egg comes first and it hatches to give a Hen. Other said Hen laid the Eggs so Hen Comes First. The Program I played It wrote It is worlds Strongest Chess Game. So I thought they are saying correct. And my Program wins against him in 60 moves. So I wrote the fact. But later a few players told me that Rybka is best Chess game. If some day my Program beats Rybka I will again say it. But maybe by then some other program becomes worlds best. Some people say Fritz is best. Some say Chess Master is best. Some say Deep Blue is best. I do not know which plays best. Play Chess at: http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html Today for the First time Nomorechess was beaten twice by Beginner Level, However Nomorechess said he was playing Blitz game and not playing seriously thats why he lost the Match. I feel now Beginner will give you a good Challenge. I find it takes 50-60 moves for you to win Beginner. Earlier you used to beat in 40 Moves only. With recent Improvement I feel now you will need 60-70 Moves to win Beginner Level. Play Chess at:http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html And may be in 1/3 Matches the Beginner will win. And Easy Level will be 50-50 for you. Normal will beat you 2/3 times. Master will beat you 3/4 times. Thats what I think. May be your game level is better than what I think. But since you mostly play with beginner level. I have a feeling It will have very difficult for you to win Higher Levels. Bye Sanny Play Chess at:http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html

I Update the Rating of Game as again a bit of improvement was done. Beginner: 1700 Easy: 1800 Normal: 1900 Master: 2000 Play Chess at: http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html Nomorechess now you will have tough time beating the Beginner & Easy Levels. For Stronger players Zebediah I think it will be tougher to beat the Master Level. The game strength was further improved today. And this time it was a serious improvement. Play Chess at: http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html I am going to see a lot of losses by good players in comming days. As I promised the game will be further improved. Now is the time To get a good Challenge. If you are currenlt playing a game. Just close your Browser and start the game again So that better Program is loaded on your computer and you do not play with older version. I am sure that I am going to see a lot of losses in comming days. Nomorechess will have trouble with Beginner & Easy Level. Bonsai will have trouble playing with Easy & Normal Level. And Zebediah will find Master much tougher than what it was earlier. Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html

I believe what Sanny has in mind is his Band-aid approach whereby he finds an exact position early in the game and then types in a specific move for it to play by-rote. This is wrongheaded, and even with a thousand such Band-aids the program will be easy to beat, once beyond the Band-aid wall of protection. Personally, I don't know squat about Java, HTML, or even writing a routine to generate a list of every legal move in a given position, but it ought to be a simple task to improve on the program's current level, where it "resigns" a half-move before being checkmated. Sheesh! Just do simple math: K=99 Q=9 R=5 B=3 N=3 P=1 or this: K=999 Q=100 R=56 B=34 N=31 P=10 and add them up for the "material score". Then, after this is working smoothly, add on a "positional score" which gives a bonus for control of the center, King safety or whatever you want, just make sure that you save the original, tested-working version so you can go back to Kansas if things don't pan out. In my scenario, even a slow-as-molasses Java module should be able to get well beyond the current resign at mate-on-the-move state. In my games, the program sits there for a while and then, finally, realizes it is going to be mated by force; the time for this ought to be essentially *zero*, since there is only one legal move. For instance, in the game where I recently beat the master level I played ...QxR+, and it had just one legal move, KxQ, after which I had ...R-h1 mate. When I tried out another Web site which used a Java chess program, there was no trouble and it moved in good time, so I think the problem is specific to Sanny's program/Web site. -- help bot

Does Fritz8 have a way of weakening the program to USCF-rating equivalents? If it does, you might be able to give some kind of estimate for the strength of the program at GetClub. Personally, I find it very hard to estimate, because at times I feel I am playing a tactically dangerous computer, yet at other times I feel like I am playing Sanny himself. -- help bot

My Program was able to beat it becauase that made a blunder and gave away its bishop for no reasion. Play Chess at:http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html Fritz and Rybka I have not tested. Once my Program starts beating good players like nomorechess, yourself, bob & Zebediah. Then I will test it against Fritz & Rybka. Now it do not make silly moves. Now you told it is not playing intelligently. What do you mean by that. Can you show some moves which you think were wrong. Bye Sanny Play Chess at:http://www.getclub.com/Chess.html

Actually, looking at the programs past record, you should easily find plenty of those, what I can access on the front page of your website seems to indicated a record of 6 losses for master level 3 losses for normal level 4 losses for easy level 14 losses, potentially 1 draw (was that real or not?!) for beginner and then there's the programs score of +5 -7 versus you personally, Sanny, which appear to be the only games the program has actually won. Why don't you just run all those losses through fritz?

Java is 10 times slower than Native Chess. 2. Applets are again 2-3 times slower. So GetClub Chess was taking 20 times more time. However I think my game is for general players not for Matching against Computer. If you want real credit beat the Master Level without help from Fritz8 or Fritz10. Zebediah and Nomorechess has beaten Master Level, How about you? I think you can too. Tell me the mistakes in the game so that I remove them and make a stronger opponent for Players playing it. I would say it is at least not playing as stupidly as it used to, but still not very intelligently. Due to Sanny's claim that his program had recently beaten "the strongest computer program in the world," I decided to pit it against my home version of Fritz8. The game was really no contest, but Fritz did come up with some amusing tactical strokes, including a queen sacrifice: White: Sanny's program (at "normal" level) Black: Fritz8 (in blitz mode -- the numbers following each move are the time each machine took, in seconds) 1. Nf3 Nf6 2. Nc3 {127} d5 {0} 3. d4 {205} g6 {0} 4. Bg5 {180} Bg7 {0} 5. Qd3 {211} O-O {8} 6. O-O-O {477} Re8 {0} 7. e4? {118} -- Perhaps the losing move. Fritz now shows its greatly superior calculating ability. 7...dxe4 {19} 8. Nxe4 {157} Bf5 {0} -- A very troublesome pin. White can't break it by 9.Nxf6+, since 9...exf6 wins a piece. 9. Bxf6 {194} exf6 {0} 10. Re1 {191} Nc6 {14} 11. Kb1 {308} Qd5 {0} -- Fritz rated the position at about -1.45 here. 12. Nfd2 {104} Bxe4 {0} 13. Rxe4 {174} f5 {0} 14. Rxe8+? {238} -- Relatively best was 14.Re2, accepting the loss of a pawn. Now Fritz rates the position at about -3.10. 14...Rxe8 {6} 15. Nf3 {272} Qxf3! {4} -- The queen sac. Of course if White retakes on f3 then 16...Re1+ and mate quicky. 16. Qd2 {187} Qe4 {0} 17. d5?? {172} -- There was no good move, but this is very bad. Fritz's now saw a forced mate. 17...Qd4! {4} -- Threatening 18...Qxb2# and therefore forcing further material loss. 18. Qc1 {132} Re1 {0} 19. c3 {141} Rxc1+ {141} 20. Kxc1 {159} Bh6+{159} 21. Kc2 {188} Qa4+ {188} -- At this point Sanny's program resigned. Black has a forced mate in 4: 22. b3 Qxa2+ 23. Kd3 Ne5+ 24. Kd4 Qxf2+ 25. Kxe5Bg7# 0-1 Pretty much a hare-and-tortoise affair, except that here the hare never let up. Sanny's program simply doesn't have the speed and calculating ability to stand up to Fritz8 even in its quickest-moving mode.
