In the last few years, a number of major companies have folded,
reorganized their business, or changed their business models. With the
skyrocketing fuel prices, increasing unemployment rate, and price
crashing in real estate, it is increasingly more difficult for
companies to sustain the same level of business.
This is why I urged the USCF in the past few years to change the
status quo to become more efficient, professional, and financially
viable. Chess is booming outside of the USCF. Unfortunately, little
has changed within the USCF.
Instead of doing what is best for chess or the USCF, I see the same
destructive politics, under the table dealings, unethical conduct, and
power grabbing by the same people who are desperately trying to
protect the status quo.
Instead of reaching out to supporters and partners, this federation
reaches out to protect its insiders=92 interests while chasing away so
many good people. And if anyone speaks out against this sort of
things, they are being insulted or attacked.
This has been the same pattern which exists for decades. After being
on the board for 9 =96 10 months, I now understand why the USCF has
failed miserably and why so many have given up and walked away. I just
hope that this federation won=92t face the same fate as so many other
companies or organizations.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 17) - Willie Randolph is out as manager of the
New York Mets, fired in the middle of the night 2 1/2 months into a
disappointing season that has followed the team's colossal collapse
last September.
Bench coach Jerry Manuel takes over on an interim basis for Randolph,
who led the Mets to within one win of the 2006 World Series. They got
off to a strong start again last year but plummeted down the stretch
and have been unable to rebound.
A preseason favorite to win the NL pennant, the $138 million Mets
(34-35) had won two in a row when Randolph was let go early Tuesday
morning - making him the first major league manager to get fired this
season.
Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto also were
dismissed in an enormous overhaul that was revealed in a fact-of-the-
matter Mets news release at a stunning time - about 12:15 a.m. PDT,
nearly two hours after New York's 9-6 victory over the Los Angeles
Angels.

I am a Mets fan and I like Willie Randolph. However, in the real
business world, if you don't perform, you are let go. You are
accountable for your performance. Unfortunately, this is not how it
works with the USCF. I have been pushing for a quality control system
within the USCF to deaf ears. Chess politicians do not want to assess
efficiency and performance. They would do everything possible to
protect the status quo and insiders. This is one of the reasons why
the USCF has failed miserably year after year and this is why we lost
money in 9 of the last 11 years.

It all depends on how you look at it. If you went
to a local tourney last week and only four players
showed up for a 5-round Swiss, you would not be
harping about how chess is "booming"; but if you
are a famous GM, getting lucrative invitations on a
routine basis, you see things as peachy-keen--
especially if you are free to travel to where the
action is.

All you have to look at is how poplular the chess servers are. How
many people on ICC, Redhotpawn, chessworld.net etc. that are US
residents that don't belong to the USCF. I would bet that alot of
them don't want anything to do with the USCF.
Chess isn't dying as a game, it is just moving away from the 'old way'
of OTB clubs and tournaments. On Chessworld.net (where I play) I
would guess that on this ONE server that there are more Canadian
players than all of the CFC. I wouldn't be surprised if this is also
true for American players and the USCF. Chess is doing just fine...
Corrupt "political" organizations are suffering.

**What's the question? India and Turkey are examples. Turkey putting in
$60million dollars into chess ed in schools, and I think last month India
announced training programs for 1,500 regular teachers for training in
chess. China too... chess in china is enormous. That's 2/3 of the world
population.
It is declined in Western Europe and the Russias, but not as radically as in
the US, where the per cent player per population is declining in terms of
traditional rated chess activities - yet Americans love games, and just need
warming up to the benefits of it all.

It's the Hungarian chess fed fiasco all over again. Some people are

I fully agree with Susan, that is why her and Paul need to resign.
After being in office for almost a year they have not lived up to
their election pledge of securing sponsorship money for the USCF.
Just as the Mets let Randolph go for not meeting performance levels
Susan and Paul also have not met the performance level they set and
should go.
