Subject: Moderator Control of the Debate on the USCF Issues Forum
We did endeavor to approach each matter judiciously, and I am shocked that you, of all people, would say otherwise. You were given wide latitude during my time on the FOC since you were a candidate for the EB. You were the only person in the USCF to have attempted to unethically influence my behavior on the FOC before I took my seat, in fact, even before anyone had told me that I had been appointed. ========= EDIT Moderator Tsawmiller demands proof of the above missive from Sam Sloan ("You were the only person in the USCF to have attempted to unethically influence my behavior..."). The post made in fide- chess may be found at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/fide- chess/message/28182 and the forum post where this and the reply are duplicated is in forum post #58583. =========
Thank you. I much prefer for the moderators to do it this way, pointing out an unsupported claim made by Steve Owens and asking him to provide proof of it, rather than what the moderators usually do, which is not allow it to appear at all. I am quite curious and have no idea what Steve Owens means when he writes, "You were the only person in the USCF to have attempted to unethically influence my behavior". The record is clear on the fide- chess group that Steve attacked me almost daily on my group starting in 2002 up until 2007 when he was made a moderator of the USCF Issues Forum. I have little doubt that Goichberg appointed him a moderator based on his long record of attacking me over there. I do agree with Steve Owens that once he became a moderator he did not act unfairly. It seemed that Goichberg was probably disappointed. Goichberg felt that because Steve attacked me over there he would delete me from the USCF Issues Forum. However, it did not turn out that way. Steve preferred to respond to my postings rather than merely delete them. Meanwhile several of my most important postings have not been allowed to appear, including "Failure to Disclose Expenses of Board Members" and "BINFO 200803055 from Susan Polgar to the Rest of the Board". Also another posting in which I complained that this last posting had been approved and then instantly had been pulled by a moderator has not appeared. Please note that this last posting, which merely copied without any changes or comments a BINFO by Susan Polgar which is theoretically available to the USCF membership, has not been allowed to appear on the USCF Issues Forum. The moderators on the USCF Issues Forum are right now debating whether to pull a post by Donna Alarie which may include a suspension of her for up to one week up to an outright ban on posting, for posting the following sentence: "Management chooses not to inform two EB members when the financials are out. Coincidentally, the two it chooses not inform are the two who would be most vocal and critical about management." Goichberg is saying that this is a violation of the AUG because it contains "speculation about motives is the suggestion that these two members were singled out because they would likely be most vocal and critical." I disagree. For example, consider the following sentence: "Mary wore a red dress. Coincidentally red is the color of the school that Mary attends." Some might say that Mary picked the color red because that is the color of her school, but most would conclude that Mary simply favored the color red on that day. The moderators are going on a binge of pulling posts just because of the use of words like "coincidentally". This is thought police at its worst. Sam Sloan

Here is the posting that Steve Owens claims was "unethical". There is nothing unethical about it. Anybody reading the postings by SteveTN from 2002 to 2007 will agree that the vast bulk of them were attacks on me, Sam Sloan. What was really unethical was for Goichberg to appoint both SteveTN and Gregory Alexander at the same time in view of both of them displaying long standing hostility towards me. Read what I wrote and see if you can find anything "unethical" about it: "Dear Steve Owens, "You have been nominated to be a member of the Forum Moderation Committee. "This is now up for a vote. "Steve of Tennessee has long been extremely hostile to me. He is one of those who attacks me every day. "I do not mind your attacks because I am used to it but as you may have noticed I have completely stopped posting to the USCF Forums as there is no point to posting if almost everything I write is deleted. "What do you think about this? "You have been a member of this FIDE-chess Yahoo group for five years since 2002. "I have never moderated or deleted your postings even though 99% of your postings are attacks on me. "Once you get in the position of having the power to delete my postings or even to suspend or ban me from the USCF forums, will you give me the same courtesy that I have given you? "Sam Sloan"

They are of no interest to the rest of the world, which is the scope of this newsgroup. Cheers, Andy

Please note a funny typo. Tim Sawmiller writes, "Moderator Tsawmiller demands proof of the above missive from Sam Sloan ("You were the only person in the USCF to have attempted to unethically influence my behavior..."). " That statement was made by Steve Owens, not by me. I assume that Sawmiller knew this and just made a typing mistake. Sam Sloan
