The FAQ for this newsgroup makes reference to a programming tool kit named the Standard Algebraic Notation Kit, and provides a link to the package on a server which no longer exists (ics.onenet.net). Does anyone have a copy of this package (or a link to a live site which has a copy)? Thanks!

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/project/ai-repository/ai/areas/games/chess/san/ This link seems to work, but doesn't have much in the way of a users manual.Might be easier to roll your own.

I was going to suggest that you google for `san kit chess' but that throws up a goodly number of dead links, too...
