Choose close.CM4000 will close close What should I do? Thank you, SR!

I am unfamiliar with Fritz, so I can't help you there. As for the entire Chessmaster series, the only versions that I suspect will work on Windows XP are CM9000, 10th Edition, and any early DOS edition like CM4000 or earlier (because it can run in a DOS box). jm

The fastest and ultimately least painful recommendation I can give is to spend $20 and get Chessmaster 9000. I'm 99.5% sure that you will never be able to get it to work, although you could try Windows' "Compability Mode" settings. Just navigate to the folder where CM4000 was installed, right-click on the executable program (probably called "CM4000.exe"), and choose "Properties", then select the "Compatibility" tab. Then choose "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and choose "Windows 95". Keep in mind, though, that CM4000 Turbo was released even before Win95 existed (1994), and was therefore only expected to run on Windows 3.1. Best of Luck! jm

I also tried Chessmater6000 and that didn't work. I like the graphics on CM4000. This means I might get Fritz instead. But I am not familiar with the Fritz series. What do you think?
