Guys I'm am going to buy Fritz 11 if it is compatible with Vista. Is it? Also does the Fritz engine make use of 2 CPU cores, is there a Deep Fritz 11? Using Fritz 8 at the moment but the GUI is a bit shaky under Vista, I'm getting the occasional redraw errors and giant letters appear in the Game Setup window instead of graphical pieces however I try to configure it. Any other chess program recommendations? Is there any way to convert giant PGN files into a browsable games file under Fritz? At the moment it seems a case of having to open the PGN in Wordpad, copy a game to the clipboard and pasting into Fritz, not very user friendly is it? Cheers.

It uses the fritz UI, provides additional functionality than fritz, and more importantly kicks fritz's ass like the red-headed step child he is.

Is Fritz11 compatible with Vista? The chessbase website seems to be pretty clear. Look at the bottom of the Fritz11 product page: "System requirements: MINIMUM: Pentium 300 MHz, 64 MB RAM, Windows Vista or XP (SP 2), <<=== mimimum (choice of two) DVD ROM drive, Windows Media Player 9. **RECOMMENDED** Pentium IV 2.2 GHz or higher, 256 MB RAM, Windows Vista, <<=== **recommended** (choice of one) GeForce5 or compatible graphics card with 64 MB RAM or higher, 100% DirectX compatible sound card, Windows Media Player 9, DVD ROM drive." Therefore, Chessbase feels Fritz11 is better off with Vista than with WinXP-SP2. -- nod32; zonealarmpro; spywaredoctor

Usually the deep version comes out shortly after the single CPU version, but for the version 11 release there is a delay for some unknown reason. > >Using Fritz 8 at the moment but the GUI is a bit shaky under Vista, I'm >getting the occasional redraw errors and giant letters appear in the Game >Setup window instead of graphical pieces however I try to configure it. > >Any other chess program recommendations? > There's Arena and Winboard for free products, or Chessmaster for a commercial product. >Is there any way to convert giant PGN files into a browsable games file >under Fritz? It will display the list of games like it does for files in native .cbh/.cbv format. >Cheers. >

A note on CM: The latest incarnation (Grandmaster Edition) is currently the only version "supported" under Vista, but in my experience you are probably just as good off using 10th edition, which you should be able to get cheap. Yes, there are bugs in CM10 under Vista, but the same bugs are still present with CM:GM under Vista. Don't get me wrong, overall I consider CM to be a good product and it offers a good package deal. But it's not perfect, and it's far from bug free.
