I'd like to buy a small hand held chess computer. Would folks here
care to offer comments and recommendations?
Best,
David

I have a palm TX with Chess Genius, Nintendo DS / Chessmaster and
Exalibur model 974 (NYT Electronic Chess).

Although its the most expensive option I would highly recommend
getting a palm pilot with Chess Genius. I rarely use any other hand
held now. Although the Nintendo DS is nice to have for other games :)

Or any handheld with Windows Mobile, and then get Pocket Fritz
(expensive), Chess Genius (less expensive) or CEBoard (free!). Either
way, no matter what software you use or which OS you choose, make sure
that you pick a model with a touch screen and a stylus. I also have an
S60 phone with Chess Genius, but entering moves with the stylus is _so_
much more convenient than navigating with keypresses. And the PGN
support on the S60 version of CG is really not all that.

I definately agree, the stylus is far better than using the keys.
Probably one reason why I dont use my excalibur very much.

I recommend The New York Times Chess which I bought at Sharper Image
it has some nice features but most important of all battery life is
spectacular.

Does your excalibur play white from the 7th and 8th rank ?

I have the Ivan that is playing GC , i like their products but the major
flaw when i want to be black it plays white that way ...

Over all i can recommend them ....
