Greetings. After 1. e4 we reach the position rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/4P3/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq e3 bm 1; id 1; What's all that "b KQkq e3 bm 1; id 1;" stuff at the end ? "b" presumably means Black to move, "e3" presumably means that Black could capture en-passant on e3, no-yet-castled information must be in there somehow ... Is there a URL or an RFC which defines epd ? -- Regards, Peter Peter Billam, DPIWE/ILS/CIT/Servers, hbt/lnd/l8, 6233 3061

You will find it many places on the net, I use this site: http://www.very-best.de/pgn-spec.htm You find the EPD section under 16.2. There is two errors in your line. 1. bm (bestmove) should be a valid move. 2. id takes a string value so correct is: id "1"; Odd Gunnar

Excellent, thank you. And there is a direct link to Section 16.2 at http://www.very-best.de/pgn-spec.htm#16.2 > There is two errors in your line. > 1. bm (bestmove) should be a valid move. > 2. id takes a string value so correct is: id "1"; > Hmm; my line was a product of GNU Chess 5.07's "epdsave" command ... -- Regards, Peter Peter Billam, DPIWE/ILS/CIT/Servers, hbt/lnd/l8, 6233 3061

Both black and white can castle both kingside and queenside. The capital letters are for white. The lowercase for black. No idea about the bm 1; id 1 bit, though.
