Hi

I am looking for a book called "Your first move" by Sokoloskii
published by Raduga Publishers in Russia.

I don't think this company still exists so is there any chance of
getting this book ?

thank you abebooks.com seems to be the best bet.

I even tried sharevirus.com with no luck.

I don't think there is anything illegal in scanning and torrenting this
book if the publisher does not exist :)

Then your understanding of copyright law is flawed. The fact that it
is impossible to get hold of a legitimate copy of a copyrighted work
does not give you permission to make your own copies. In particular,
the copyright usually rests with the author, not the publisher.

You may feel that this is wrong and that it's not immoral to make
copies of such books but you were talking about legality, not
morality.

I have had good results from www.abebooks.com, which is linked to a
large number of second hand book shops. At the moment it offers me a
variety of different copies of "Your First Move: Chess for Beginners" by
Alexei Sokolsky (different transliteration?). Note to others in the UK -
I have found that the difference in price between second hand books in
the UK and the US is enough to make it well worth while NOT restricting
the search to bookshops in the UK, although you do tend to wait longer
for copies to come from the US.

Just did a search (for the second time) on Sokolskii at Amazon.

There are 4 sellers that have used hardcover copies starting at $18.25.

Again, Amazon!

John

I think you will find Amazon have a section where you can list books you
want and hope someone sells you one.

You could try looking up "Charring Cross Road" and books on the
internet. There are a lot of book shops in that part of London (UK) that
deal in used books.

This is the first one I found on Google, but there are lots of shops in
that road dealing in old/used/rare books.

Another is eBay. I bought a copy of "my 60 memorable games" by Fischer
on eBay.
