Subject: The Urusov Gambit - some analysis please
The Urusov Gambit goes like this

1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6 3.d4!? ...

I would like to know if anybody on this forum has encountered this or
has tried this opening gambit as White. Is this a worthwhile opening
to study to take an opponent by surprise?

Most particularly, I'd like to know which opening system could this
transpose into assuming the opponent wants to try and deviate from
White's intentions?

Oops, forgive my sloppiness. I meant to write 3...exd4 4.Nf3. The
transpositional line stems from the Petroff, 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.d4
exd4 4.Bc4.

Actually the Urusov proper requires the two further moves 3...Nf6
4.Nf3. A common transposition is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4.
The gambit was extensively covered by Tim Harding for ChessCafe. His
articles are available in book form as part of "Heroic Tales: The Best
of ChessCafe.com 1996-2001."

Hello
You have this very fine site:

I have played this gambit any years ago with good results. It was favourite
of all russian young masters at the beginning of century 20th, Karpov is a
victim
