Subject: Smith Morra games in PGN format
I'm looking for a collection of games using the Smith Morra Gambit. This
page:

http://www.chessville.com/instruction/Openings/Smith-Morra/instr_open_Smith_Morra_Part7.htm

ends by saying:

"And here you will find my download files. One file for free (2150
games) and a big database of over 9600 games for only USD 5.95"

Unfortunately the link it points to:

http://www.mychesssite.net/php55/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=5

does not work - it keeps giving a message:

"Temporarily offline. Please try back in a few moments"

I've contacted the author of the article who says the site he linked to
has not worked for a long time and probably never will again. He does
not have the games himself.

Does anyone have this collection of 2150, the other collection of over
9600 games, or a similar collection of Smith Morra games? If so, could
you make it available either by providing a link, or you can upload
directly to a web server I administer.

http://www.althorne.org/php/

Please note, if the file is uploaded, you will not be able to verify it
has been, as the permissions are set to stop this happening - I don't
want the site being used for sharing porn, or uploading executables, PHP
scripts of similar. However, there will be a message indicating progress
and of the file uploaded.

Thanks Chris. When I see the extension of the file, I thought that
person must be a UNIX user - then realised the site was yours.

That said, ICC's Blitzin uses a .bz2 file, which I rather doubt is
compressed in that way, although I can't be bothered to check now. Do
you know who first used that file extension - ICC or the the authors of
the bzip2 compression routine?

PS, if you have a multiprocessor box, there is pbzip2.

http://compression.ca/pbzip2/

which works much faster on my 4 CPU SPARC processor than what the
standard version does. The bzip2 algorithm scales pretty well for
multi-processor machines.

If it had been someone else asking, I'd have repackaged it with
zip before uploading it.

AFAIK, bzip was released in 1996, and, I think, has been using
that extension from the start. I don't know when ICC started using
it.

It is also the extension for "ZPoc Christian Music Networks User
File List (ZPoc)": <http://filext.com/alphalist.php?extstart=%5EB >.

No such luck; maybe my next machine...

I've made a note of that for future use. Thanks.

I should have added the files will be at

http://www.althorne.org/up/

If you look at the files in that directory, you will see why I have done
this:

http://www.althorne.org/up/pantsoff.exe (no doubt some form of nasty
executable)

and

http://www.althorne.org/up/r57shell-1.3.php
(a shell in an attempt to hack)

you can understand why I have done this.

But if anyone can upload the games, I'm happy to make them available
later on a web site.
