Subject: Rybka just 10 times stronger than GetClub.

Today a little improvement was done in GetClub Chess. I played Easy Level(30 sec / move) vs Rybka (6 sec / move) The game was equal till 27th move then Rybka got a pawn up in exchange. Since Queen and other major pieces were gone till 30th move. The game went into End Game Phase. Since Rybka was a pawn up it was able to get the Queen in 48th move and then found a Mate. It was for the first time Easy Level was able to postpone game to End game till 49 moves. Since Easy level was thinking 30 sec / move and Rybka was thinking just 6 sec / move. GetClub was taking 5 times more time. If GetClub take 10 times more time then it will play as good moves as Rybka does. Rybka is just 10 times stronger than GetClub. Here is the game. It has to play till end game to win the game. GetClub gave no opportunity for a quick mate. If GetClub is given 10 times more time than Rybka it will play as good moves as Rybka does. Now Help Bot and Taylor Kingston will find it much difficult to win the Beginner & Easy Levels. Lets see how the players score at GetClub after the todays improvement. Its not the rating that has to be divided by 10. Its strenth. Whith every twice strength Rating goes up by 100 points. So for Twice 2 times strength Rating +100 For 4 times strength Rating +200 For 8 times strength Rating +300 For 16 times strength Rating +400. Since Rybka is 10 times stronger. (It takes 10 times more time for GetClub to find a move which rybka finds in a given time.) Rybka rating is +350 higher than GetClub. Since Rybka Rating it 3000, The Rating of GetClub under same time control is 3000 - 350 =3D 2650. So Normal Level is Rated 2650. Acording to this estimate. Normal Level (2 min / move): 2650 Easy Level (30 sec / move) : 2450 Beginner Level (8 sec / move): 2250 So this estimate is giving +300 rating to GetClub Chess. However the real Rating is 300 points lower than it. The real Rating of GetClub Chess is. Beginner: 1900 Easy: 2100 Normal: 2300 Master: 2500 So I think the Rybka version I am playing is not having a rating of 3000 But it has a rating of 2700. Incase the Rating of Rybka is 2700 then it gives correct rating of GetClub. Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

What you are looking for is "speed of calculation". For chess strength you then also need to do something useful with the calculations, in particular with regards to evaluating positions. If you were actually trying to improve GetClub (which you clearly are not really trying to) you would work on the positional evaluation function.

Let's see. If Rybka is 10 times stronger than GetClub, and Rybka is rated 3000, then 3000/10 = 300. So GetClub at its best is rated at 300. Sounds about right. - Mike Petersen
