It's only four points over the last peak, but it confirmed that peak, and I'm "testing the all-time high" as they say in the stock ket. I'm getting better at figuring out where to put my pieces during the game, and at holding positional advantages, pluis I'm dusting off the weaker players much more easily. Now if I can only keep training another six years or so I might get somewhere. -- "Google maintains the USENET." -- The Honorable R. Barclay Surrick, Eastern District of PA Judge From Parker v. "Congratulations on attaining the coveted 1200 ELO rating." "If you could please avoid defaming me, I'd appreciate it." "So when you sue him, what are you going to list as damages?" The damages appear to be 560 points, except that they were *added*, not taken away. "This wanton attack has caused undue harm to my client, as he was planning to play in the "Class G" section in next year's World Open. Now he may have trouble in that many players may mistakenly think he belongs in the "Class D" section, where the competition is cut-throat, the level of play having gone from subtle positional manuevers to razor-sharp tactical slugfests! The harsh reality is that more than a few of these tactical monsters in the "Class D" section have at one time been "Class C" players. And on rare occasions a "Class C" player may have once been a member of the select "Class B" group -- the hard-core assassins of the chess board! So you see, my client is really being thrown to the wolves here, your honor. He doesn't stand a chance when rgc posters are allowed to defame him at will. We are asking for compensation in the form of two hundred USCF rating points, plus a spot in this year's grudge match (with the added condition that my client not under any circumstances be required to face Sam Sloan, a known child molester)." The prosecution rests.

The Raymond Gordon with USCF ID 13114278, rating 640, is a schoolchild in New York, not the guy who posts here who is, as I recall, Gordon R. Parker, USCF ID 12482187, rating 1900. I can help with this -- a 7 year-old girl explained it to me: Everyone lives in the castle (put rooks on either end) The King and Queen live in the middle of the castle. (put King/Queen on center two squares) The Queen's room matches her dress (Make sure Queen is on same color) There are horses in the castle. (put knights down) The Bishops stand between the horses and the king/queen to keep the horses from getting poop on them. The solidiers protect everyone in the castle (put pawns all along 2nd rank) Hope this helps. And be sure not to get poop on you.

Ray Gordon wrote: "It's only four points over the last peak, but it confirmed that peak, and I'm "testing the all-time high" as they say in the stock ket." With a rating like yours, what you should probably do is forget about stocks and buy a LEAP, or perhaps a call option. After all, in your case the downside potential is minimal while the upside potential is nearly unlimited! Leverage, that's the ticket. "I'm getting better at figuring out where to put my pieces during the game..." Sam Sloan quite cruelly talked about where the pieces go at the start of a game in response to this comment, apparently not realising he was dealing with a child. "...pluis I'm dusting off the weaker players much more easily." There are such players? :) "...and at holding positional advantages..." At the lowest levels of competition, often players will make illegal moves and the opponent may not even notice; in view of this, I would recommend focusing on tactics. Also, the rate of return on Tactics stock is far greater than the paltry dividends one might accrue on Positional-play. One stock screener I like for beginners is the King-safety screen; another is the Material screen, which identifies stocks where one side has accrued massive "earnings", while the competition has an equal amount of "losses". And remember to cut (material) losses short, but let profits ride. -- help bot

Ray Gordon wrote: > > I'm getting better at figuring out where to put my pieces during the game, In the corners you put the rooks. Next to them you put the knights. After that the bishops. If you are white, your queen goes on the left center square, your king on the right center square. If you are black, the reverse. After that, the pawns go in front. Try to remember that the right hand corner must be white. White is always right! I realize that this is difficult for you, but if you keep trying you will eventually get the hang of it. > Now if I can only keep training another six years or so I might get > somewhere. Do not get discouraged if it takes you longer. By then, you should almost be ready to learn the en passant rule. > -- > "Google maintains the USENET." -- The Honorable R.
