Greetings. I wrote: > Linares has produced some fascinating games and is now reaching an > exciting end and a bit more excitement than I was hoping for ... I was sad to hear the news. Kasparov, in his press conference, as reported by Michiel Abeln in http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/event/linares2005/r15.html says: > He feels his best games ever are against Karpov in 1985, game 20 > and in 1987 game 24 and probably the best of all his games, the > one against Topalov in Corus. I don't think the Corus game was this year's, because he didn't compete in that; I'm not sure which year is intended ... It would be nice if someone could dig out these games and post them :-) P.S. I'd like to see Kasparov write his "My Sixty Best Games" ... -- Regards, Peter Peter Billam, DPIWE/ILS/CIT/Servers, hbt/lnd/l8, 6233 3061

Either the 16th - which is brilliant indeed - or the very last game 24 in the 1985 match which made Kasparov the 13th champ. -- regards Andreas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette

I have the 1985/16 in an old Informator 41 (with Kasparov's comments), where is is reprinted at the front as the Best Game of Inf40. Perhaps Andreas could post the PGN ? The 1987/24 is the final game of the Sevilla match, where Kasparov needed to win to draw the match and retain the title. This I have in Keene's book "Showdown in Seville". Karpov got into time trouble early on (after 25 moves only 10 min left, after 30 moves only 1 min left!) but defended brilliantly in the complications starting on move 31 and lost a classic ending. Kasparov-Topalov 1999 is delightfully wild ! If most of those moves are best/near-best then it really is an amazing achievement. A worthy subject for analysis ... -- Regards, Peter Peter Billam, DPIWE/ILS/CIT/Servers, hbt/lnd/l8, 6233 3061

A worthy > subject for analysis ... copied from http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/talschess/ "Editor's Note I have compiled about 50 different annotations of the famous game between Kasparov and Topalov into this kas-top.zip file. The annotations includes comments by several GM's, as Kasparov, Seirawan, Ftacnik, Stohl, Byrne and many others + some Fritz engines. The comments are edited for easy use and conformity with the CBLight software (ChessBase format). My foremost ambition was to make these annotations easy to follow for the reader. I think most people would argue that game 16 from 1985 belongs on the list (that's the famous sicilian taimanov game which featured 16. ... Nd3!). Of course, game 16 from 1986 also seems like a reasonable candidate.
