Who is Susan Polgar? I keep seeing her in every single issue of Chess LIfe. Is she the current world champion and has she beaten Gary Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, Leko, etc. before? Why is there is much coverage about her in every single issue? Is she really good at chess ?

Besides the fact that the original question dealt with why Susan Polgar would appear so often in Chess Life -- the official magazine of the United States Chess Federation -- the simple fact remains that nearly all the conversations about chess governance of late have been about the USCF. I can't recall a single thread about, say, the BCF, or the Chess Federation of Canada, or the Russian Chess Federation, etc. There is an occasional discussion of FIDE, although even here it often has a US perspective -- i.e., should the USCF support its current leadership, etc. Randy Bauer > > Dave. > > -- > David Richerby Hungry Tool (TM): it's like a hammer > www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~davidr/ but it'll eat you!

Susan Polgar is paid to promote chess. There's a HUGE difference between sponsorship and enjoying your work. Some people like their jobs; some don't. If you HAD a job or GOT paid, you might understand this. Bottom line: The fact that Susan Polgar loves her job doesn't make her some kind of corporate lackey. And that wasn't even a very good spin on your part, Gordy. Try harder next time. > >Personally, I also think she's much more attractive than > > any of them -- what's wrong with associating US chess with an > > attractive, articulate, accomplished woman ? > > Nothing more than would be wrong about sending a message that looks have > something to do with what a nonprofit organization would want to be > associated with (not that Susan's even slightly attractive, as she's old, > used up by an ex-husband, and was never that pretty to begin with). > > She's also a former *women's* world champion. Some other Zero questions: _ Which move is best to open a chess game with? Why should I study endgames?? Which is faster: The Enterprise or the Millenium Falcon Why should I play chess??? Can you please recommend which [Sicilian variation] is strongest one to learn ? How come people who play chess act so weird and strange? Why does [Capablanca] say to start first with endgames when the opening comes first ? I played in some tournaments over the weekend. The TD told me that he submitted them online and the USCF took his money. But the USCF has not rated them yet. Why is that the case? Is Ray Gordon a secret identity for Bobby Fischer Is there a chart that I can get which tells me the number of minimum players required in a tournament that would prevent any pairing conflicts. can you recommend a good book to buy about Spassky's best games? are you the Don of chess ? Do you think that Kamsky is playing chess again because Kasparov retired from chess? why is Kamsky not playing any of the main lines like he used to play in the mid 90s. These days he is playing a lot of sidelines in the Sicilian. I was wondering ... why the super GMs don't play the standard dxc4 slav .... Instead, they are opting to play the Semi-Slav ... and the a6 Slav _ _ Is this person for real? Does he ever thank people after they try to help him?

I assume you are attempting to be coy rather than clueless, but just in case it's the latter, Susan Polgar is a former world champion, holds the men's and women's grandmaster title, helped the US medal in the last Olympiad, and is a tireless promoter of chess in this country. While Kasparaov, Kramnik, Anand, Leko, etc. may be great players, I don't recall any of them recently doing much to promote US chess. Polgar does. Personally, I also think she's much more attractive than any of them -- what's wrong with associating US chess with an attractive, articulate, accomplished woman ? Randy Bauer

The USCF needs to promote young girls like Laura Ross and Hanna Itkis.
