Subject: Is 'Dealing with d4 Deviations..' useful for Chigorin players too?
Hello,

I'm quite interested in this book, but I wonder how useful it is for a
player who wants to play the Chigorin if possible. I read in the description
for which black defences against 1.d4 it fits best and Chigorin is not
explicitly mentioned. As it sounds like the author is trying to transpose
into one of the main lines whenever possible I'm a little bit unsure how
much of the content will be relevant for me (the line 1. d4 d5 2. Bg5 would
be of interest for example)

Here a link with further information:

I googled around, but couldn't find more details than on the given web
pages. Maybe someone owns the book and can provide some more info?

Thanks,

Stefan

I think Cox answered some questions about his book at chesspublishing.com
not too long ago in the 1.d4 d5 forum.

Thanks Mike,

Cox answered already my question which clarified my concerns (the book is
not very useful for chigorin players). Also thanks for indirectly reminding
me to chesspublishing.com. A very interesting site which I wanted to join a
while ago already. I have to find out how much they have to offer about some
certain openings, but I'm again tempted to go for the gold membership. Are
you a subscriber and can give me any review / opinion?

Regards,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Yes, I do subscribe to chesspublishing.com.

I think it is a great site, but I also think it is not for everyone. I
think probably players maybe 1700-2200 will find it interesting for the
monthly updates.

I am a super nerd when it comes to annotated games though. I have the full
membership even though I never play some openings like the Dragon.

Each section is almost like having a book for that particular opening. In
fact, I have seen annotated games on the chesspublishing site that are
almost exact copies from some of my books by that same author.

Thanks Mike,

I fall into the rating range you suggest so I will think a little bit more
about it once I have more time to actually study chess than programming
chess programs, but I become more and more interested into studying again. A
pity I can't affort the time to do both at the moment.

Stefan
