Opening is very important to gain advantage in Chess, How much deep Opening should be learnt practically. The Chess game currently knows Openings till 4 moves (both Black & White) Play a game at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html Will increasing the depth of Opening improve its game or let it play Middle game after 4 moves? Currently the game plays Opening moves for four moves if you deviate then it will start thinking on its own. Its game has improved much now everyone is playing with Beginner & Easy level as they get a good game with Easy levels only. Play with Easy level at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html On looking at recent recorded games, I found now all players are playing with Easy & Beginner levels. It was a long time Taylor Kingston beated Normal Level, Now it has become quite difficult to beat Normal & Master Levels as they use Openings for first four moves and it is difficult to win once computer has good position Bye Sanny Play Chess at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html

Four moves is more than you'll ever need. No, it's because few players have the patience to wait for your program to move. It's excruciatingly slow. > Openings for first four moves and it is difficult to win once computer > has good position Four moves won't secure a good position unless your opponent just learned the rules, or they play a couple games a year. > Opening is very important to gain advantage in Chess, How much deep > Opening should be learnt practically. You learn some to 2 moves, and others to 16 moves. Learn them deep enough to score an advantage, equalize (if black), bypass tricks, and/or get to a position that you understand. If White knows two moves--"1. e4 a6 2. d4 h6"--that's deep enough to defeat most opponents with equal play. However, if Black only knows "1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6" he's likely going to be crushed after 3. It's excruciatingly slow. Another example, moves on normal levels sometimes take 10 minutes: http://www.getclub.com/playgame.php?id=DM1678&game=Chess

How far it should know the opening should depend on how complicated each variation that it plays is and whether the program would find decent moves on its own. 4 moves is not very much at all, even in non-complicated openings. > Its game has improved much now everyone is playing with Beginner & Easy > level as they get a good game with Easy levels only. > > Play with Easy level at: http://www.GetClub.com/Chess.html > > On looking at recent recorded games, I found now all players are > playing with Easy & Beginner levels. If you also look at the time it takes for its moves, e.g. in this game http://www.getclub.com/playgame.php?id=DM1642&game=Chess then you'll find the explanation. The program regularly takes 30s to 2min for its moves on the beginner level, which is supposed to use only 10s. And even the moves it records as 4s do actually take longer than that, even the 0s moves take a little bit of time in reality. And in fact this game is a good advantage of the computer playing a very complicated opening, where I would have said more than 4 moves of theory would be needed, however it does not misplay it too badly at all. > It was a long time Taylor Kingston beated Normal Level, Now it has > become quite difficult to beat Normal & Master Levels as they use > Openings for first four moves and it is difficult to win once computer > has good position 4 moves ensure that? Interesting, why did I ever bother with opening theory beyond that... --Bjrn
