Subject: Fritz Engine Issues
I am considering purchasing Fritz but during some reaearch I have become
aware of problems using various (though not all engines).

From what I can gather a lot of engines produce an "Unknown Error" message
if you try to use them on a system where Fritz is installed anwhere other
than C: (an exception to this rule being Crafty).

Now whilst I dont want to get in a slagging match, if this is the case then
surely it's a case of "Poor Programming or Bug Testing" on behalf of GMBH
(I'm making a lot of assumptions here based on things Iv'e read in formums
etc so I may be barking up the wrong tree) or equally it could be the engine
writers not adhering to proper proceedures ...... after all crafty is
supposed to work.

Just before Christmas I got a new Hard drive and during the installation
process XP ended up calling my DVD drive D: CDROM E: and my hard drive F:
(my Iriver MP3 player becomes the C: Drive when I Hook it up !!) XP has
resisted all attempts to rename drives etc.

so I guess my questions is

Does this problem exist ???

Thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated

You're more likely to get a useful response in rec.games.chess.computer.

As an aside, `GMBH' is German for `Limited Liability Company' -- the
British equivalent is `Ltd'; `LLC' in the USA. In this case, you mean
`Chessbase'.

I have Fritz9 installed on an outside firewire F: drive. It runs
perfectly.
