Subject: ChessBase or Chess Assistant?
|
I spent a lot of money...time...working on chess theory but I still confused about which is the best chess training and database program as professionals say: there is just two options [chessbase and chess assistant] I work on chess assistant for long time but I found that most of chess players prefer chessbase becuase of many chess software and chess ebooks created by chessbase (look at :http://groups.google.com/group/Share-Your-Chessbase-Files) so I decide to change to chessbase and I want to know am I right? or just return to Chess Assistant Thanks

I like the board/graphics better in Chessbase. Having said that, I strongly recommend George Renko's Tactics CDs for everybody Class A and below. It is compatible with Chessbase. Hundreds of timed tactical problems grouped by theme. Chess Assistant has similar packages but, again, you must deal with the graphics. Good luck! Are you dissatisfied with Chess Assistant? If not, why change? You can buy only _one_ training title from ChessBase and you'll have a free ChessBase reader you can use with all those ChessBase eBooks and databases. A database program lets you manage a large (set) of data, in this case chess games, to be used for datamining. It means extracting information from the gathered data, be it other's or your own games. For any serious user, neither ChessAssistant nor ChessBase will be a desillusion; they're both excellent programs. CB more tending to database functions, CA more to a bit of alround accessibility. As an example, for database use I find the ChessBase keys better than the CA classifiers; I also find navigating through the games easier with CB than with CA; but CA is faster in handling large databases, e.g. in creating opening "books" (trees) and it's a more allround program, with a few strong engines included. Nothing wrong with either of them for any serious chess player. -- CeeBee ***The cookie has spoken***
