I've seen a book about 2. .. b6 but I don't get what may be the plan and strategy behind it. Can someone explain at least the basics and/or give me some links about it ? Thanks, Enrico B. A.

The idea is to be able to hit back at white's center and demolish it if he's not careful. Beyond that, it's hard to say too much since a lot depends on how you follow up. It's easy to imagine something like 1.d4 b6 transposing into a somewhat mainstream system, but to me this looks like a choice for someone who's terrified of playing into his opponent's opening, and therefore is willing to accept an inferior position without a fight. The idea, I guess, is that there are plenty of reasonable positions you can get to, but I suspect most players who go for something like this are going to end up with less space and not much to show for it. By avoiding contesting the center right away, black invites white to overreach. However, even most hypermodern players prefer to be a little more tactful is encouraging white to build his center.
